  • 33.95mpg!!!

Look at the TA go. from Alamogordo NM to texas staium and back the TA used only 42.35 gallons of fuel. Full tank when I left and filled it up 1438 miles later when I got home. Not to bad for a V-8. I had the cut out open, maybe that helped.
1999 Ram Air Trans Am. M6

SFC( not sure what kind), drilled/slotted rotors, K&N air filter, all free mods, 3" Borla cat back exaust, electric exaust cut out, NGK spark plugs, royal purple motor oil, and Zaino .Maybe more. I find more stuff done to it everytime I look at it.

    ohhhhhhh you suck!

I did a 600 mile trip a few days ago on straight Highway (I-80) and still got like 22 to the gallon. Btw I was thinking...what is the optimal speed to cruise at in a 3.4 v6 for gas mileage?

That's impressive for any car let alone a 300 horse V8.

I would guess it would be whatever speed kept you in the lowest rpm's in the highest gear. Although my allante(which had the ability to keep track of my mpg) got its best mpg at 63 mph, atleast while useing cruise control. That ended up being about 1600-1700 rpm's.

I'll bet that you have 2.73 rear gears. With that gear ratio and a 6 speed, that's the highway cruiser gas mileage king. Congrats!

My ride is a 93 Firebird 3.4 A4, with 3.23's in the rear. Last year I went to the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, I got 28 mpg running around 80mph with the A/C the whole way. Seeing how I was only expecting 24 or 25, I was pleasantly surprised.

I am not sure what the rear end ration is. I had the cruise control set at 84mph on the way there and it was at about 1800 RPM's. I though all M6's came with the same rear end.

I think they all came with 3.42 . Oh and that is about what mine is at the same speed.

Ya know, I think you are right. It's possible that some of the autos came with 2.73s. I know my 93 M6 came with 2.73s and it's a great highway cruiser.

The 93s had a different M6 than the 94-97 (and 98-02). I think the 93s came standard with 2.73s and the 94-02s had a 3.42 standard. Let me amend my previous statement.

93 was the only year a M6 could be had with anything but a 3.42:1 rear. There were two different M6 transmissions that year as well. They had different ratios.

And in terms of gas mileage, my 3.73 auto is a hog.

Then again, that's not exactly why I own it.

funny though....... my 94 with a 3.4 with 3.42 gears only gets about 26 on the highway tops. That extra gear ratio really does put your mileage in the toilet in a hurry. Now that I'm driving the WS6 daily, I almost want to swap the 3.73 rear and use the 2.73 out of the 93 and go for gas mileage.
