Time to replace the muffler on my 95 TA. Whats on there right now was on there when I bought it in 97. It aftermarket, what kind (Magnaflow, etc.) I don't know. It's a single inlet, dual outlet. So what is a good muscle car sounding muffler to replace this with? Thanks in Advance.

I have a borla adj cat back, with AS&M mids with Off-road y-pipe and love it. The loud mouth is the same (as compared to wide open) but the borla is adj and you can make it as loud as you want or buy a electric cut-out.

      I think he's just looking for a muffler. Not a whole cat-back.

If your primary concern is sound... You cant go wrong with flowmaster.

Magnaflow, Borla, Flowmaster all make replacement Muffler and tailpipe sets. I've had the Borla rear section, it's pretty tame sounding. My current 4" Mufflex with the flowmaster is not what you would consider a regular replacement, it's pretty darned throaty. I've heard Magnaflow is mellow until you romp on it, then it opens up.

I had a 2 chamber flowmaster on my 93 Z28. It was cheaper than some of the other "performance mufflers" and had a deep throaty sound. Made it hard to sneak home late at night.

Thanks for your input. I was thinking along the lines of a Flowmaster but was wondering if there was maybe something I was missing.

I don't think you can get the adj. rear section only, I think it comes only as a cat-back. I haven't heard a mufflex yet but I can def tell you borla with no plate
is def not tame by any means. I've been told so many times I can remember that it sounds like I am running open headers!

Borla has two kits. I know, because I have them both. The muffler and tailpipe system was originally designed for the 93-95 Z28. It's called their muffler back system and is non adjustable. The twin intercooled tips are still there as is complete stainless construction. It was a simple and direct swap. A little better tone than the factory system but still fairly tame. The pipes are the same diameter as stock, just a better flowing muffler and is a single in, dual out crossflow design just like factory.

The other kit is the 3" adjustable cat-back that most are familiar with. That replaces the intermediate pipe and has a adjustable "cut out" so to speak just over the rear axle. You cantrol the amount of flow through the muffler and left exhaust tip via plates. The more open the hole in the plates, the more bypasses the muffler and exits the right tip. The sound goes from a low rumble when capped, kinda obnoxious when wide open.

I got a flow-tech terminator muffler on my 95 TA....I love the tone, but I also have long tubes and a 3in ORY with no cats, not forsure how it would compare loudness wise with other muffler only swaps....
