  • Multi-Function Lever

My current lever on my 2000 Camaro is a little worn and I am thinking of replacing it. Does the lever just pull out or does something hold it in place? Thanks for your replies.

I'm curious about this too. I have a new one for mine because the cruise control switch is intermittent. It looks like there is a roll pin that might have to be pressed out. I haven't looked very close yet. BTW mine cost $82. It wasn't cheap.

Mine pulled straight out. It's in there good, so it kind of felt like something was wrong when trying to pull out. I'm not 100% sure if the LS1s are the same. Of course, when the lever is out, disconnect the wires too.

Yep, you unplug the wiring to it and pull it straight out. Install is the reverse.

Thanks. I will try the install tomorrow and let everyone know how it went.

So nothing is actually holding it in place that you have to unbolt/remove? If you give it a hard enough tug, it will just come out? Mine has felt very loose for a while and it'll need replacing sometime soon.

I just did mine. I pulled it out first (I wanted to verify that it would come out this way). Which pulled the connector out of the harness and bent the pins.
              So
Step 1 pull the cover off to get to the connector. The cover is the plastic cover just below the tilt wheel lever. To get it off slide it parallel to the column away from the steering wheel.

              Step 2 Unplug the connector.

Step 3 Jerk the shaft straight out of the column.

Step 4 feed the wire for the new shaft through the hole and plug it in the connector.

Step 5 take the new shaft and rotate the thumb wash button to the off position. Then push the lever straight in the column. It will click in.

Step 6 put the cover back on.

Boy it's nice for the cruise control to work 100% of the time rather than 50%.

Just follow Jeff's steps above. I also got a new lever since the mist was a little loose and the lettering was pretty bad. It's good to have a new one working 100% of the time. Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread.
