  • Firehawk foglights???

Alright I posted this question a year ago and for one reason or another didn't end up doing it, and I've done a search and only come up with my own posting so here it is again......

Does anyone know where I could get ahold of a kit or something to that effect to install the foglights that a 97' Firehawk has? I've searched online and can only find expired links...

    Thanks for any help
    Beau

Well i got a fog light kit from walmart. Its not firebird specific but the lights look almost exactly the same. Only problem is though they didn't end up perfectly straight so you'll have to mount them carefully, and you'll have to do a little custom wiring since its not a model specific kit. And if memory serves, it was like 22 bucks.

edit: oh and the light color was pretty much spot on with my stock headlights, only now i got silvania silverstars(or what ever they're called) and now my headlights are a little whiter then the fog lights.

Hmmmm... Thanks $22 is not a bad price at all, but I was hoping for something vehical specific, also, maybe someone with a Firehawk can answer this, is it a different switch that operates the fog lights or is it just wired in with the headlights. I would like to make this as factory looking as possible.

If you really need vehicle-specific, then you can go to a Pontiac dealer and order fog lamps on the 97 W68 Sport-appearance package. Be prepared to pay a lot more for them (about $100 more). I still had to modify the brackets to make them fit perfectly.

Here's what mine look like with the Pontiac fog lamps...

The factory foglights are operated by a separate switch, not by the headlight switch. There is probably an unused wiring harness connector for the switch right behind the headlight switch panel. I think that's what I used to find +12V "switched with the headlights" power for the lights in my AutoMeter gauges. Look in your Owner's Manual, it should show the switch location for the factory fogs. Of course your panel will not have the switch. You could probably get a factory switch and cover plate from a junkyard that specializes in 4th Gen F-Bodys.

Thats a real nice job Jeff, looks real clean and straight forward. Did you have to order the parts from walmart offline tho? I went there last night and didn't see any fog light kits?

Thanks for the comment. No, these are not the Walmart lamps, but the more expensive Pontiac lamps from the W68 V6 appearance package (I don't think the $22 Walmart lights existed when I did the fog lamps many years ago). The switch was about $15 from a Pontiac dealer.

Also don't mean to hijack this thread, but does anyone know where to get replacement bulbs on the W68 or Firehawk fog lamps? I've had a few blow out, and I had to "make" one from a Pilot H3 55W lamp.

I actually did get them from the store itself. Found them in the auto section. I don't have the box anymore though, so i don't have a part number. Sorry

Alright now I know how I got confused. Jeff I thought you had done that wright up that you had posted a link to (should have noticed the car was green not black )

Anywho your car still does look great, did the foglights you ordered from pontiac come with a wiring harness and stuff, or did you have to rig that yourself?

And Ryan did you look at the link Jeff posted? Does that sound like the right lights, I looked around the automotive at walmart and did not see even one set of fog lights

Thanks again for all the help guys, soon as I get this all ordered and done I'll post pics

                      97redV6Bird,

Yeah, I wish that write-up existed when I was installing mine, because the whole thing was trial-and-error for me!

From Pontiac, all I got was the fog lamps, and blank female ends which I had to supply my own wiring. Still very easy wiring job, the most difficult piece was getting it to turn on with the parking lamps, and to get the switch to illuminate when the lights are on.

I also noticed fog lamps at AutoZone which look about the same size as these in case you can't find them at Walmart.

They look the same but i don't think the described wires were the same color. Try checking out walmarts website and see if they have any then PM the link and i'll let you know if those were the ones i used or not.

Plus if you get the UPC from the website, i'm sure the walmart could order it for you on their next truck.

Even though the guide does not specify, I strongly recommend using a relay for the new fog lamps, will put less strain on your electrical system.

Hmmmmmmm.... I even looked on walmarts website and couldn't find any foglights maybe I'm looking in the wrong places or something.

Anyway a friend of mine at work has a sister that works for a dealership maybe I'll see if she can get me a deal on the pontiac foglights

You can't find a lot of stuff on the walmart website..

I got a set from JW Whitney that was almost the same exact size as the firehawk ones. I just had to mount them.

Look at them under the Car finished album. I think I have an extra new set at home. I'll check and let you know if your interested...
