  • hey wolfman a.k.a (kerm),or anyone tire ? w/i

I just got a good deal on some michelin 255-55-18's--used. I want to run them on the back only. They are to be mounted on corvette ZO6 wheels (18")am i gonna have any problems?-----thanks in advance. I have 275-35-18's up front that fit perfectly. I forget if the zo6 wheels are 18x9.5 or 18x9

Clearence aside....I've heard that varying the diameter of tires on your car may cause problems with the ABS system. System may interpret different rotation speeds to mean skidding.

Just a consideration....I'm not positive on this.

      thanks joe

i haven't had any problems yet running different sizes front to rear but but what you say does make sense. currently running 235-35-18 on rr and 265-35-18 lr---definate nono and both have steel belts hanging out from pro burnouts i have a set of 4 michelin 255-55-18's that i am going to run on back only till i can save enough for a new set of 275-35-18's like on the front---just wondering about clearance.

Boy you must have nerves of steel.

I can understand that you have two different sizes from front to back but different sizes from side to side?? Probably different manufacturers too.

Just the thought of it runs a cold shiffer down my spine. I guess I must be too conservative or maybe I'm getting old.

If you run a different size tire on either side of the rear axle, whenever you replace the tire, you should probably replace your differential at the same time. Man, talking about excessive dif. wear!

In response to the comment about the ABS imapact of different tire sizes, pull your ABS fuse and move on. I have yet to drive a GM car that has ABS that is at all effective. If anything, I think it is dangerous.

In my 2001 Suburban, going over large bumps sets off the darn ABS to where my braking is seriously limited (over what it would be if there was no ABS) even when there is no loss of traction!

In my Camaro, the ABS and traction control are both gone...

yep drexel torson diff wear has me worried

but the pumpkin is holding up fine. I did have 2 235-35-18's on rear but spun one off---way to small of a tire for 18x9.5 rims so i put a old falken 265-35-18 on the one that spun off. Hoping toput a set of michelin r speed rated 255-55-18's onrear so i'll at least have a matched set on rear--i'm guessing they came off aford lightning or a navigator might have to tweak the lip---gonna try to put them on monday or maybe tomm. if i can find someone open.Allthe tire stores in this one horse town i live in closed at noon on saturday, (hohenwald tn.) might have to head into city ,(nashville)

              1. your abs is not going to like that much of a diff in rolling diameter.

              2. you are mounting a tire on a rim thats over .5" wider than manuf.'s tolerance. that tire calls for an 8" rim... you are going to spread the sidewall alot wider than its intended for. thats not going to be a "happy casing" when it comes to flex.. and that affects the tread blocks for gripping and water siping as well.

i personally wouldnt run that combo.

the rest of you...i dont get the impression he's running two diff .sizes on the same axle.

"currently running 235-35-18 on rr and 265-35-18 lr---"

In response to not running different sizes on the same axle, I took this to mean different size tires on left rear axle to right rear axle which in a straight line would eat up the posi etc.

                Apologize if I misunderstood...

                    255-55-18's are on

"abs inop" "brake" "tcs off" all stay lit---gonna have to pull fuse i guess but they look kool---take up every inch of space available in rear. Rubs just a touch on big bumps inboard---may have to massage inboard well just a little---they are tall tires for sure gonna have to go down to 35-18's as soon as i get some more money
