  • Steering Preload

Excuse my ignorance, but I was cruising Shoebox's website and was reading about steering preload adjustments. I've searched around and can't seem to find an answer. What is preload, and why would it need to be adjusted?

The preload is how tightly the "gears" mesh. Too loose and there's slop, too tight and the steering becomes harder to turn and the wheel doesn't return to center as easy. Usually you don't have to mess with it, however the adjustment can be used to make up for a certain amount of wear.
