  • What's this part ? imbetween flywheel and crank.

can't seem to figure out what part this is i will upload a picture later whenever it finishes getting sent to my email from my phone but for the meantime i guess it's what the crankshaft and flywheel bolt into ?

when i traded my core in the guy told me that i would need a new one and pointed to it i had taken the flywheel off but i guess i left whatever the fly wheel bolted into on it he also said to get a new oil pump pushrod becuase when we tried to pull it out it broke i am guessing this is the same thing as an oil pump shaft i got one for 8.50 at pep boys and now i can't find an oil pan any where so it looks like i am going to the dealer tommorow.

I think what he's referring to is the pilot bushing. If you look dead center of the end of the crankshaft, you'll notice what looks like a thick washer that looks like it could come out. Anytime you pull the clutch out you should replace that part. You'll need a puller, or search on this board for the "wet toilet paper" trick to get it out. That's what the end of the transmission input shaft sits on. You should also replace the rear main seal since it's right there and if it leaks it takes out your brand new clutch. $6 part taking out $400 is not cool.

Oh yeah the Pilot Bearing. Yeah I ripped my old one up when I was taking it out. I take it that it was the original one. Yeah Its worth changing. I didnt change the Rear main seal. Oh well.

Rent the puller from autozone. it's free, just pay the 20 dollar deposit. I tried that toilet paper trick for a long time with no results, only cause it was 4 am and I couldn't rent a puller. That just ended up making a big mess for me. I wouldn't waste time with that trick, just rent the puller, it takes like .2 seconds to pop it out with the tool.

OK when you say flywheel (automatics don't have flywheels) do you mean the flex plate or the torque converter? If you are talking the torque converter then the mechanic is saying you need new flex plate. I have heard several people say they have had the flex plate crack.

Automatics do not have or use the hole for the pilot bushing/bearing.

A4? ha ha ha. Then yes It has to be the Flex PLate. I never heard of it cracking but I guess it can happen oi you have a high stall converter and alot of Torque. It still amazes me that a Steel sheet thinner than 1/8 inch is all that it takes to transfer all that power to the transmission from the Crank.

sorry about that : O hah

well i think it's the part between the flexpate and the block then ?

it's what the flexplate bolts onto

The flex plate bolts directly to the crank shaft in the center and to the torque converter around the outside.

It bolts directly to the Crank then to the Coverter not the block. Then the converter is inserted to the trans.

Was there oil on your flywheel? If so, I bet he was talking about the rear main seal. Other than that... Theres nothing there.
