  • 99 z28 headlight circuit breaker?

Yesterday, I drained my battery by leaving the flashers on overnight. Fortunately, I had a AAA membership and was able to get a jumpstart.

Unfortunately, the jumpstart seems to have fried something involved in turning on my headlights. They simply won't go on. The daylight sensor flips, the running lights come on, fog lights too, and the tail lights all come on as does the instrument panel and the warning tone indicating the light switch is on if the key is out of the ignition and the driver's side door is open.

But no headlights - no low beams, no high beams, and no high beam indicator when I flip between them.

I've searched the Internet for solutions. For example, I pulled and replaced the DRL module, but nothing seems to change things.

Which indicates to me that the headlight circuit breaker is possibly fried. But I can't figure out where the heck it's located. Or is there also possiblya fusible link in the mix? Any ideas?

OK guys, I found the circuit breaker. It's in the headlight switch mounted in the dashboard. It's this weird bimetallic strip. Sadly, it had been blown clear of the switch itself (I assume this happened during the jump). Not good. I didn't realize it was a breaker and just thought it was some random piece of metal until I mentioned it to a more electronically literate friend who asked to see it and well, blam.

It's a $40 repair job from here on in (free if only I had a picture of what it looked like before it blew). BTW the mechanism of the headlight switch is a bizarre combo of a plastic tube, a spring a bb-sized ball-bearing and some grooves on the inside of the casing. It's almost enough to make me want to steer clear of anything GM makes, ever again, except that I love my z28.
