  • Stage II installed (finally)

After collecting dust for 4 months I finally had my spec stage II clutch installed. I am happy to say so far so good, as I was worried because of some of the stories you guys have shared. I am fighting temptation to see what it can do until I give it a proper break-in. I will let you what I think when it is ready.
By the way, I have never chirped third gear and I am hoping/wondering if this might make the difference. My only mods are listed below. I have run a 1/4 mile best of 13.76 @103.7. I am curious as to who can and can't catch third gear, and should I be able to.

i could chirp third gear with my stock clutch. It has a lot to do with your tires and suspension setup. I can chirp third with my stage 3 as well. I've never gone fast enough to shift it to fourth to make it chirp, so I couldn't tell ya, but I doubt it.

Here's my question, why is anybody even concerned over how high of a gear you can "chirp"? The 10 bolt in our cars is already weak as heck anyway, why in the world would you purposely slam gears to make the tires chirp and risk breaking it even faster?!?

And as far as the suspension setup and tire choice, yeah it does matter how you set it up, as long as you are talking about setting it up the WRONG way. The whole purpose is for the rear tires to NOT lose traction, not to make it lose traction in 3rd or 4th gear! I could completely reverse engineer my car and make it SPIN 6TH but that's not proving anything. Right now my car won't chirp, spin, or even shudder a tire in 2nd at the track on the nitrous and that's how I want it to be. If you're chirping 4th on the street, you've got work to do.

My point exactly. When I had two bald kumho's on the rear, I chirped third gear all day on a crappy blown out stock clutch.

So because we have ten bolts we can't do a little beating on the car once in a while?

I thought I would get a negative response or two. I am not trying to beat up the car, I just wondered if on a hard shift into third the tires would chirp. More of a justification of power than anything. Kinda like the Beach Boys song "Little Deuce Coupe" the line "i can catch rubber in all four gears".
On top of it all with the bigger wheels and tires on the WS6 provide a lot more traction over a regular TA. My car on a hot day won't spin in first under full throttle, which of course is great at the track. Just another reason I plan to stick with the 3.42 gears, if I really needed to chirp 3rd or 4th I would get 4.10s.

Yeah i was gona say i can chirp third with a stock clutch and my fresh tires i used to have...and c'mon a little chirp doesnt make you loose traction to the extent its really gona matter. I think the point of a trans am or whatever was sorta ment to go fast so yeah i drive the piss out of mine and i dont have any problems with my rearend givin up on me. I shift as fast and as hard as physically possible. A chirp sounds bada** in my opinion, and of course the more power you make with stock or close to stock things its gona chirp harder when you shift.
