  • Hydrolock?

I think my car is experiencing hydrolock as Joe mentioned many months ago to me. Car is almost not starting today, and I'm concerned about driving anywhere now, and not being able to start the car. How can I fix this without doing a headgasket change? Is the engine already ruined? Car has had bad headgasket since August. I turn the key, and get practically no response like its a completely dead battery. Start it up again with gas, and starts. It did this today after only sitting for like 40 minutes, and now again after about 4 hours.

Im having trouble understanding your question. Does the car start or not? Is this a reoccuring problem? If so you need to find out how water is getting into your engine to begin with. If you just ran through a big puddle, try this...

Take out the spark plugs and crank the engine. This will get all of the water out of the combustion chamber. Put the plugs back in & try to crank the engine. If it turns for a second and then stops again, you sucked water that was sitting in the intake into the engine. Remove the plugs and keep repeating till all of the water comes out. Eventually, the car will crank without stopping. At this point it should start. If not, you need to find out if the car is getting fuel & spark.

Dont ask me how I know so much about this.

Yes, the car starts barely. Its almost at hydrolock. Car probably won't start in another week its almost finished. The oil level has gone up do to antifreeze in the oil. Takes the 2nd, or 3rd turn of the key to start. I'm looking for another car this week. I'm not fixing a headgasket on this car for 1,700 dollars, on an engine thats probably half ruined anyways, and needs a rebuild. Repairs over the cars value.

So you have antifreeze in the oil & the oil/antifreeze is getting into the combustion chamber?? WOW. Thats one blown headgasket. The plugs in the link you provided probably wont fix your problem. If you read carefully, they PERMENATLY release combustion chamber pressure once they have been activated. Thus, you will need to change your plugs just about everytime you drive the car.

Park the car. Its done. You need to replace the headgasket or sell it. If I remember correctly, I think I said in another post of yours that I am interested in purchasing your car. Let me know if you decide to sell it.

You still may be fine with just a headgasket(s) change.

Had the same trouble with my LT. Coolant would leak into the cylinder and stop the piston on the compression stroke. After awile the coolant would be forced past the rings and the car would start. It did not hurt anything inside the engine when this happened but the oil was contaminated with coolant. Pulled the engine and did a complete rebuild and mods at the same time. The head gaskets can be changed while the engine is still in the car if you want. Use a top quality head gasket as I feel the stock one is not that good.

Could be that the head/s are Warped and were not resurfaced.
