My car is having a real hard time going into 5th gear. With the car off it goes into all six gears with ease. When the car is moving 1-4 do fine, some days smoother than other. The car will not down shift into 5th gear and sometimes its hard to shift up into 5th. If I get the car up to about 50 in 4th then let off the gas and let the engine speed drop off to about 43 then shift, it goes into 5th alot easier. Has this ever happen to anyone else with maybe a different gear? Any help would be appreciated because I don't want to keep running it if there is a big problem, this is my first manual transmission.

SFC( not sure what kind), drilled/slotted rotors, K&N air filter, all free mods, 3" Borla cat back exaust, electric exaust cut out, NGK spark plugs, royal purple motor oil, and Zaino .Maybe more. I find more stuff done to it everytime I look at it.Tags: None

Sorry to post late on this, but I just joined and it took a few days before I was given access...
My first g/f had a 86 Toyota Celica GTS with bad syncros. It was a bugger to get from 4th to 5th.
But... if you goto shift normal and it won't go in, try pushing it into gear twice.
It sounds weird, I know.. but it worked great for hers. Maybe it'll let you prolong a pricey trip to a trany shop for a bit longer...?

Flush the tranny and put some redline gear oil in there and see if that helps.
