  • SES lights on?

Hi guys, fitted the new water pump now,but after starting it and running for a bit the ses light came on.

Ive rang around a few local places, but no one has the scanner to do it with,as im the UK,places are hard to find, and i dont want to damage anything.

Is there anyway of getting the light off,or can it only be done with a scanner?

Dont think fitting the water pump, and the light coming on are related.

    Its a 96 trans am lt1!!

    Thanks in advance!

Make sure you plugged in everything securely.

an easy check, see if the plug to the temperature sensor is connected (the sensor goes into the waterpump, on the front)

The SES light comes on when there is an "active" problem. It stays on until you fix the problem. That's the way to turn the light off - fix the problem. You could try resetting the PCM (pull the "PCM BAT" fuse for 30 seconds) to clear the codes, and it might take a while for the SES light to turn back on, but you'll lose the code for the problem, and reduce your chances of finding out what is wrong.

You can get an OBD-II code reader for US$40. Couldn't cost that much to ship it to the UK. If they are that hard to find in the UK, you could earn your money back by scanning OBD-II US cars for people.
