  • Airbox

I am currently trying to customize an airbox form my LS1 in a 2001 Trans Am. I was wondering what the hose was that is attached to the air box which goes somewhere down the drivers side fender? Also what is the purpose of it and should I attach it to my new assembly. The little sensor that goes in the intake tube (not the MAF) does it have to be located in a certain area??

Or, maybe some of you have a SLP airbox or whisper lid, what did they do with that hose????

Don't bother modding the stock air box. You won't see much of a gain. Get a lid.....shop around, SLP, MTI, TSP, etc....
The sensor in the lid is the IAT sensor.
I don't know where the hose goes??? Just know that you will need a breather element for it. You can get a Fram cheap'o or get a nice ricer colored one from PepBoys or any other parts store. Its in the ricer section. I got a black one. Looks like a cotton/oil filter.

I don't know about the LS1s but on the LT1s that hose goes to the electric smog pump.

Like was suggested earlier... don't modify your airbox... buy an aftermarket one.

The hose that you are refferring to only sucks air from the airbox the first 15 seconds or so that the car is turned on during a cold start. Some aftermarket lids - such as SLP - have a provision for that hose built in to airbox. The MTI lid does not have the provision for it, the lid came with a small airfilter to put in the hose and clamp it to the fender. It seems to me that it would be better to keep the hose out of the airlid assembly (like MTI does) because it seems like it would serve no purpose being in there, but it might cause some uneven flow on itss ide of the box.

The other smaller plug I believe records the temperature of the air going to the MAF. All aftermarket lids that I know of have provisions for it.

PS... I have the MTI lid.
