how much is a tranny/tranny rebuild

fastlane told me it was my valve covers rear main seal and sparkplugs new place says its the tranny and the oils leaking from that area hasnt told me a price yet, he says its not the plugs or the mainseal i got my tools, how hard is this to do myself how much is a tranny would that cause the shaking in 6th now doing it in all gears please help

i went to fastlane and they told me 800 dollars for the rearmainseal valvecovers ,sparkplugs, wires and fuel pump. i took it to another shop and there saying i need a new tranny and thats whats causing the shaking,how much does a tranny run,im going to try to do it myself sorry for grammer at work oh they said the oils comming from the same area as the tranny

I don't want to beat on you about your posts but I don't think it's so much the grammer you're using but the lack of punctuation.


sometimes its really hard to read and understand what your saying especially with no punctuation run on sentences result we would like to help but it can be frustrating i know alot of us feel the same way just a period or comma here and there will help i know youre in a hurry but please we will all appreciate it thanks

THanks sneitzel. Well If they are saying you need a transmission then thats over $1000. If they are saying that the oil is coming from there then its the Rear Main Seal which should be changed if the Trans is dropped. If your going to drop the Trans, might as well change the clutch while your there if its old. Dropping the tranny is not the hardest thing but is some what hard. I did my clutch a couple months ago. It should take the better part of a Weekend, for the experienced person

It can be worse. One thing I dont understand is, why does the Transmission need to be rebuild/replaced? Is it b/c of that shaking? I doubt thats the transmittion. If anything its more than likely misfiring. Do the Plugs and wires and see if it goes away. You need to eliminate the simple things first.

ur right, ZZOOMZZ sucks, took it to a friends trans shop its not the tranny but a mount and he told me those are cheap ,it's the plugs and a oil leak from somewhere

Interesting. The tranny mount is no big deal. Thats nothing. That is something u can you no problem. Change the plugs and wires and see what happens. I dont understand why its so hard to figure out where its leaking oil from. Rather easy. Check and see if its the Valve covers that are leaking. See wheather or not the Valve cover bolts are tight. You never know, Could be they are simply loose.

im gonna check this weekend, the shops here ( i have been to five) dont no squat about f-bodys one shop wanted to charge me 400 labor to do the plugs,i found a shop said they will do it for 300 dollars out the door, but they said i should have them diagnas it before ,to make sure its the problem, or i can drive to La and beg conelite to help me fix it (just joking)for a 100, ill pay for parts and some beer or try it myself (got my dusty tools out of storage)but to be honest im not good with cars ,mechanically challenged , but i cant sell the car its to fast and my girl just bought me a firebird sweater hahahahah later dudes tryed to use . , / ' ;

Ha ha ha. And Im going to be in the The garage this Saterday Installing my Lowering springs. Honestly man, Plugs and Wires are very easy, even if you dont know much. Its as simple as pie. All you need is:
9/16 spark plug socket
ratchet
3 inch extention
6 inch entention and
10mm socket.
Thats all. Very Simple. Where are you? Santa Maria? Thats a drive. My ex girldfriend is from Solidad, and Goes to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, So I was up there all the time.

im 30 min from calpoly, how do u make a sig,oh can't believe ur lowering ur bird mines already real low stock(unless its been lowered)i almost hit my nose on everthing, if u ever want to make a few $$$$$ hit me up, i go to la alot to visit my girls famly(shes half black) in south central and her cousins in compton,all my friends trip out cause i go there and im white hahahahaahahaha i go there twice a month later

Yeah I was up in Solidad for her families party back in November. I was driving from Solidad to SLO and the Alternater Went out and my car was on the brink of dying. Lucky for me she had one of those $30 tool kits from like Sav-ons. Ran to AutoZone and slapped that thing on the car and next day, drove 3.5 hours back to LA. When your desperate, the smallest amount of tools work. Yeah I was up there every couple weeks, but that was with my honda. I would make it with 6-7 gallons of gas (225 miles) no problem. Now its almost twice as much. So we're no longer seeing eachother, but still trying. Next time I head that way Ill let ya know. You make a Sig from your account settings. Its very recommended.

Yeah Its not that bad. Its only a 1.5" Drop. The Gap in the wheel wells are huge. Plus Im trying to Carve Canyons so I need to lower the center of gravity on my car. Im trying to do it right and set up a real good Platform for 400+hp in the future.
