My 98 T/A vert is good for another year or two. Don't get me wrong, cause I lovvvvvvve it! But I'm starting to think ahead. Just today I heard about the Solstice for the first time. Anybody got some inside news? How about other comparable options? No flames, but I might have to switch to a Mustang if there is no other gofast RWD droptops.

Solstice is sweet...it was a concept with a supercharged 2.2 Ecotec. Motor Trend has it that it's coming in 2005 as a 2006 model (preproduction testing proves it)...with lil change to the the styling. Only visual difference..smaller 17-18 inchers instead of 19-20s. Door handles are pulled from the shelf...and the exhaust are dual on the either side instead of in the middle...not to mention interior changes.

The concept was built on a J-body platform (read Cavalier) however the actual production car will be on the all new kappa platform. Don't know what the sister cars will be, but there will bound to be some.
Overall intent and mission of the car is similar to the original Miata. Low priced, fairly quick, nimble, traditional sports car. However the rumors are of at least 200 HP (being conservative here) in a light weight body are promising.
Ecotech is a promising engine despite it's humble home in the J-body cars. Recently a modified saturn ion set the world land speed record for a FWD car at something like 220 MPH. The previous record holder was the Civic at 30mph less in 2001 or so.
Estimated price last I heard was just a bit over $20,000. Guess there's still gonna be a little excitment at Pontiac after all!!Joe K.

There is no contest... A muscle/pony car with a V8 vs. a 2.2 L 4 banger... The Mustang has the heritage, and the potential. The SVT Cobra and Mach 1 are awesome cars, no two ways about it.Former Ride: 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 - 345 rwhp, 360 rwtq... stock internally.
Current Ride: 2006 Subaru Legacy GT Limited - spec.B #312 of 500

Get a 2 yr old Vette. With the C6 on the horizon you should be able to get a low milage conv for mid $20's. I have seen several 00-01's with less than 30k miles go for $25 or less. I had planned on getting one until my wife lost her job. All my fun money dried up.

Thanks, still looking...
Yeah, the car is getting more miles on it than I like, so it's time in about a year or two. Several cars come up as interesting, the BMW 330i(pretentious), 350Z (tiny), upcoming Corvette(pricey), and even the Crossfire(underpowered) when it comes out in convertible. The TA is just such a sexy kick in the pants, I don't think anything will compare. Maybe the vette...
