  • 100k in a Camaro

Passed a big milestone today...100k in the Camaro!

Its also the first time that I've hit the century mark in a car since about the fall of 1990.

Some reflections.....I've driven it in nearly every kind of weather from rain to ice to 100 degree heat to 20 below and on the roads of 22 states and the District of Columbia. Its been pretty reliable - no stranded breakdowns and no electrical or computer glitches. I've only had to replace the tires, brakes, batt, and rear shocks once (altho new tires are on order now). As far as unexpected repairs, I only had a handful all at once in the summer of 2004 and I can't help but think they were related and possibly due to bad gas or some tampering. All the replaced parts are original equipment GM/AC-Delco except for the brake rotors and spark plug wires. It still runs strong and the interior is free of squeaks/rattles for the most part. I dont have any new pictures of it yet....I need to do a real good detailing soon once the weather gets a little better. I used Zaino when it was new but haven't applied it for a year or so. Its got the typical swirl scratches and a few chips but I can still make it shine. The headlights are getting cloudy though - I might think of replacing them soon. Overall, I've been satisfied with my new car purchase 100k miles ago. There are some things I wish GM would have done differently in the design of it. Compared to what else is out there today, except for the Ford Mustang, I don't see anything that is as unique as the Camaro. I'm not planning on getting rid of mine any time soon.

        I know the feeling.

My 92 RS (which my son now drives) is at 206,000 and still running strong. It's had its share of repairs (and right now an annoying elctrical thing that drains the battery if you don't drive it every day) but still as strong as ever.

My ragtop turned 115,000 miles this week, still getting 28 PMPG hiway (thou I think it is suffering the cat problem that GM sent out a bulletin about last Dec, so am taking it in for that) but otherwise no major repairs.

Great cars, and if cared for they last a looong time.

I'm shooting for 200K by the end of next year. I replaced my motor not too long ago but I refuse to let her die!

After all time we spend together, she doesn't deserve to end up in some depressing junk yard with bucktooth rednecks staring at her, creeping all over her with wandering hands & old wrenches and yanking parts off her.

If she's got to go, it's got to involve hard impact, flames and some tow truck carnie asking me "how the hell you do that?"

            Congrats. I'm around 123k+ and the motor burns/loses 0 oil. I'll bet you'll hit 200+ without a problem

Well, I can't quite say that. Mine never burned a drop.....until last year. It appears to be about 1qt per 4,000 miles. I wanted to pull the plugs & replace them just for the heck of it, since they only have 40k, which would give me a chance to look for oil fouling, and also replace the plug wires again, just for the heck of it simply because they're CarQuest wires & I'd replace them with the proper aC/Delco ones. It has no leaks underneath that i know of.

The air filter element has about 50k on it, I pulled it to look at it and I can't believe how clean it is. I'm probably going to replace it anyway.

these cars are lasting SO long....way back when I was a college kid 100k would be an old rusted out beater.

100 k mi on an LT1 is nothing- change the oil, keep them tuned, they will go a long way. You may have to replace a seal or a line from time-to-time, but my last car, an LT1 Caprice, was at 248 k when I got rid of it- starting to rust, but still running great, and scary quick- it had shorty headers, 1.6 RR, CAI and exhaust- (factory true duals, upgraded) With a shift-kit and 4.10's you could smoke the tires anywhere, even chirp the 2-3 upshift at around 70.

They must be durable, plenty of cop pursuit Camaros out there, and the officers don't exactly baby them. My new fun car is a former Federal LS1, just getting ready to turn 100 k- I put 20 thou on it last year, and it hasn't seen any winter driving here. I will let you guys know in 5 or 6 years when it turns 200 k mi-

One thing I did have a problem with was the pinion seal (behind the driveshaft in the diff. housing). Why don't they last too long? I had one put in only 40k miles ago...I only get about that much out of them. Do those leak on a lot of the "F" cars? Last fall I noticed the driveshaft tunnel was wet again.
