  • Couple Techie questions..

    First off:

    1) Every now and then I have to add a little bit of power steering fluid. I'm not having any issues with it, nor do I see it leaking, but the top of the resevoir around the cap is always saturated. Do the caps on these generally need replacing after age? Could this be where my fluid loss is?

2)Even when I purchased my T/A, when you make a tight turn, I can hear a whine (I guess coming from the rear axle?). In November when I had the tranny replaced, they checked the gear oil and it was COMPLETELY empty!! It was with great surprise I didn't burn up those gears, but they filled it back up, all was good. But the question here is, what is that whining noise, and is it a sign of a problem?

    Thanks for any help!

My '95 Formula always made the squealing/whining noise in tight turns from day one (I'm the original owner). On advise from this board, the last time I had the diff fluid changed, I had them add a bottle of "limited slip additive" that I purchased at the dealership. The result was immediate when I drove away from the lube place. No more squealing in the turns.

Yeah either buy the additive or you can buy the quarts that have the additive already in it. They sell it at the "Stealership."
