  • Line-lock? Pros & Cons

I have the Solinoid and some fittings. My buddy bought it for his 96 Z28 and never installed it. So I had him sell it to me but I dont know if I should install it. Im not going to be doing a whole hell of a lot of Drag racing. Will it effect my daily driving in any way. What are the negative things about it. Its the Hurst kit for 4th gens. How What Line am I suppose to Bypass? Has anyone ever heard of them messing up and locking up?

    The downs

*The most dangerous thing is the install. make sure you know which lines to disconnect and reconnect without causing thread issues on the nuts which will lead to leaking

    * The ability to watch 1000's of miles being burn't off your tires when you roast them more often and the occifer that will give you an "exhibition of speed" or "drag racing" ticket (maybe both) who happens to be going though a divorce ala the war of the roses at the time he catches you

good mod, especially if you use DR's and want to heat them up properly at the strip or just don't want to screw up your brakes trying the manual foot method. If your just using street tires it'd be just a toy... an enjoyable toy

No I have alot of control over myself burning out and all that. I dont like doing that at all. The Main reason is, I do Plan to Run DR when I go to the Track. I would use it to Heat them up and to hold the car when staging b/c I hate having to hold the e-brake from rolling forward. The only thing im scared of is, this is my DD and i dont know if anyone has ever heard of the Line-Lock effecting normal braking such as it maybe not wanting to brake.

In all my years on the boards, and talking to F-bodies, I've never heard of it effecting daily use detrimentally. Only heard of leaks caused @ installation time and that is the worst I've heard from owners. I've also never come across a thread about it either

Will not affect anything if you don't have it turned on. I've actually used it to hold the car from rolling back at a stop, while stopped on a steep hill.

You want to cut into the line for the front brakes between the rear connection on the master cylinder and the front connection on the distribution block on the side of the ABS unit. There are outfits that sell ready-made lines for the Hurst (e.g. - Thunder Racing), matching all the oddball GM bubble flares and metric fittings. Reduces the chances of an error on the threads or a leak.

You shouldn't need it to hold the car on the line, or need to use the emergency brake.... the staging area should be flat. It is usefull for a burnout with really sticky tires.

Thanks Fred. Yeah I was planning on buying some pre-bent lines. they are only about $40. I when I get the lines I'll PM you Fred if you dont mind, just in case I get lost or something. Thats the exact same Solinoid I go. Payed $60 bucks brand new never used.

Like the previous post said it is mostly for the burnout. The line lock is not strong enough to hold an auto trans car on the line to bring your car up to stall speed. The front wheels will just slide foward. A tranny brake is the only way to bring your car up to full stall without creeping foward and your leg shaking from the strain.

Im aware. I have an M6 so there is a difference. I need to hold the clutch and gas while staging, Then apply just a little brake and hold pressure with the line lock when I light up the first row of light. Then rev it up and slide the clutch out just a little to roll forward to light up the second row and we're off.

Yeah. SJM Manufacturing INc. has the lines alone for $50. So thats not bad at all. I already have the Solinoid and the button and switch so sounds like its going on next month.
