  • Clutch assembly rebuild!

Hey guys, lo and behold my slave (i think..) has given out on me. There is a thread on here that I describe in more detail what happend, but basically the clutch was not disengaged fully, and i was unable to shift into gear.

Now I cant shift to reverse or to 1st, or any other gear (sometimes) for that matter. So ill be rebuild the whole system. Below are the parts I've spec'd out, if anyone has any input, its much appreciated.

NAL-12570806 Clutch Kit, Organic, 1 1/8 in. Diameter Shaft, $489.69
    26-Spline, 11 in. Diameter Disc, Chevy/Pontiac, LS6, Kit
    RAM-510 Slave Cylinder, Aluminum, Black, Pull-Style $175.95
RAM-520 Slave Cylinder, Steel, Nickle Plated, Push-Style $159.95
    RAM-78125 Throwout Bearing, Street Hydraulic, GM, w/ 1.375 $121.99
RAM-BU656 Pilot Bearing, Bronze, Solid-Type, Chevy, Each $5.99

All these parts are on summit's site.

Only question I have right now is that the RAM-510 is a pull style, while the RAM-520 is a push style. Do they both need to be push or pull?? If thats the case, will the RAM-525 work on an 02 camaro with the RAM-510? Or should i get the RAM-525 and the RAM-515?

    Thanks!

Why not get the entire LS6 Clutch kit from GM perfornace parts. It comes with the Flywheel already, Clutch plate and Pressure plate. All you would need to buy is the Slave that if its from the dealer comes with the TO bearing, save yourself some time and money. I mean It would help with that "Sweet steering wheel cover" but still a great Clutch Set up.

    (Sorry man, Had too.. )

Sticking with GM parts is normally a better bet if your not going to be doing alot of aggressive driving/racing.

If your not going to be seriously racing all the time you dont need that $40 Pilot bearing. Why are you changing out the Master. Do the Drill Mod and you should be fine. You could be fine with a stock Slave. If money is not an object then buy away. ha ha

The master cylinder is shot I think, the fluid in it is black, and I've been having problems with it since day one. I just figure I'm going to be doing it, so I might as well do it right. Spare no expense, and get the most stable setup I can. I'm the second owner of this car, and I got it when things were starting to deteriorate. I love this car (sorry Julia) and I want it around for many many years.

Plus its my first car, so...

          Thanks for the advice though!
