Guys, I finally finished my project and would like for you guys to check it out. Head over to my cardomain page and let me know what you think. Gotta change my sig too!
While I do think its cool that the car has a big block in it, I do have a question or two. Why the carb set up? Wouldnt it have been easier to go with a fuel injected setup? Seems like it would have allowed more clearance in the engine bay so you wouldnt have to hog up the cowl area. Wasnt there enough room for the AC/heater stuff? Why a "glide" instead of a TH400? How does the car brake without ABS? And more importantly....whats it run at the track? lol

I like it, did the engine get dynoed before going in the car? If so, what were the numbers? I have been working on a similar project for a long time, but instead of a carbed Dart headed BBC, I have a carbed Dart head 406 SBC. I have been lazy and not worked on it for the past several months, maybe this is the motivation I need to finish it.
I don't think that I've seen a BBC 4th Gen where the cowl was not cut, regardless of the it being FI or Carb'ed. I think keeping AC would have been very difficult and since mine was not working the last two years and I rarely wished I had it I decided it was not worth the trouble. There maybe could have been heat in the car but look at the pics and you will see there is no way that heater box could have stayed the way it sticks out. The engine itself is quite a bit bigger so replace your LT1 with a BBC and all of a sudden there is not much room at all.
I went with a Glide because I wanted the best track performance. Gary has been running one on his vette that holds the street car record at Norwalk, so I figured that's more than proof that the tranny is worthy. It's a little strange having two gears, but while people are shifting, I'm gonna be pulling away!
The other reason for running carb'ed is quite simple...cost.

Awesome job! That's a lot of performance without inhibiting the stock beauty of the car. At full throttle, I'll bet it will knock the pictures off the walls of your neighbors!

She has not been to the track yet, but eventually she should be capable of passes in the tens.
Fred, thanks for answering all those questions for me during the build, and directing me where to answer others.
She is a little much for the road. As a matter of fact whenever I take her out I check the oil and tranny fluid, belt, radiator and tires. I take it very seriously when it goes out on the road. The manual steering is likely my biggest reason for caution....the thing is a b*&ch to turn. I've got to get some skinnies on her.
That fuel injected BBC looks awesome. I'll have to add John Moss to the short list of guys I am aware of to run the BBC in a 4th gen.

One question I forgot to answer was regarding the non ABS brakes. I have to say the brakes are just fine. They feel the same right now but there are no "panic stops" on them, so we'll see. I have become quite a bit more cautious driving the car now and I hope I never need ABS!
Also one point on the cutting of the cowl.....I believe you could get away with quite a bit less cutting if you ran a normal intake. As you can see my intake raises up higher than a lot of others.

did you hear about norwalk changing it's name and sanction? it's now summit racing motorsports park, and it's nhra now. the word is that the owner is leasing it to summit and building a brand new ihra track in mansfield.

Yeah I did hear about the change. I don't know if it's good or bad. I know if you head to their website there is quite a bit of info on upgrades to the facility that they are working on. One of them is widening the pit area....thank god! They are getting a bigger tower and adding more seating. But I wouldn't mind going to another track. Especially a nice new track!
Kevin: I did re-think the blue interior because I did not think it fit the car's personality anymore. I do like the black now. It looks really sharp. Still used the same paint and everything. That stuff works great.
My motor is still a stroker, it's only bored 60 over. The stroke is 4 3/8
Yes, I need a new rear, just don't have another 2500 right now.
