  • Indexing the Opti

Well, my Dynaspark finally arrived last night, after almost 7 weeks of . I have been wondering one thing though...what's the proper way to index the spline shaft on the DS to put the key in the proper position for the install? I tried to turn it last night with just my fingers and didn't get any movement (at least not that I could tell). Thanks in advance.

Ok, so, when I tried again (this time with a little actual effort), the shaft spins freely. Go figure. So, that's +1 goober point for me lol

Be sure to take the time to make ABSOLUTELY sure that you have the splined shaft engaged correctly on the back of the Opti and in the cam sprocket. Everyone assumes that because of the "odd" tooth on the splines, it will only go together one way. In fact, its possible to assemble it incorrectly, and without excessive force. I'd estimate that at least 10-15% of the Opti installs go bad because the drive mechanism was not aligned correctly.

Will do Fred, thanks for the reminder . If the shaft is aligned properly, the Opti should fit in with little-to-no effort, correct? It should just slide right in, right?

Yep, the opti should slide on and fit flush. Do not use the bolts to pull it into position on the block.

Thanks for the tip Joe. Hopefully I should have the car up on Sat. I can already hear the headers rumbling in my head

They were having a Friday the 13th sale the last time I called them and gave me the 10% discount they were advertising for that day. Can't argue with $60
