My 93 always has been hard to start after its warm. It spins fine when cold. Not as fast as i remember my 96ss being. It has a good battery all connections are clean and tight. It seems as if when warm it has a dead spot or the engine gets to TDC and once past this point its fires up ok. I was wondering if taking it apart and cleaning it would help to by more time before repalcing it. It looks to be the original starter. Any thoughts or experinces would be great.

So what it does is it does crank over but not fast enough to get the engine to fire? If you say the battery is good, when was the last time you got it tested the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). If that checks out fine then I recommend a Starter. If its the original one you have to think about that its 14 years old. I would take it off and run over to like an AutoZone and have them test it for you.Eddie

cleaning it and running a very fine sandpaper over the contacts inside , the rotor contacts( where the brushes touch) cant hurt.
it can be an injector leaking and getting a bit of hidrolock , but it has to be leaking bad to do that, but i think a tired starter is more likely the problem93 t/a A4 3.23s
