The problem isn't so much "what size fits?" as it is "what sizes are available?". The largest true "performance" tire that you will find for a 16x8" wheel is a 255/50-16. There are wider tires available, but they are typically all-season, or generic designs that will not enhance traction or handling, just because they are wider.
You will find you either have to go up to a 17x9.5" (275/40-17 or 285/40-17) or 17x11" (315/35-17) wheel, or drop down to 15" drag wheels, in 15x8" or 15x10". With a drag wheel, in the 15" sizes, you will find much wider drag radials and slicks. I've run 28x11.5-15's on my 94 Formula with minimal adjustments.
