  • Window regulator assembly problem

So, on my way to my sister's house to help her and my brother-in-law replace the power window motors, he decides to start doing it himself. The problem comes in when he drills out the rivets...that hold the window regulator assembly to the door frame...on both sides.

So, how would one go about re-attaching the assembly? New rivets? Nuts and bolts? Thanks in advance.

I would say use Rivets for the Base that holds the motor. That is not suppose to come off. The Rivets that hold the motor should be drilled and replaced with some nuts and bolts.

I used Nyloc (aircraft style) nuts and screws. These won't loosen over time. It makes replacing the motor faster next time around.

I have no mechanical advice to offer, but let me be the first to tell you... DON'T give up and take it to the dealership... Reason: See Post "Venting: Just got the car back"

        Good luck!

Yeah, I'd be pretty ticked about that too.

Well, she's taking it to her mechanic to have it fixed, so its outta my hands now. Thanks everyone

There was a tec write up about this somewhere but I did the same thing and found out later that all you need to do is keep the window up and you wont lose the reg spring.
I found out the hard way about buying cheap window motors too. Need new ones after a year. &$@%$#@&^%$ DOH.
