  • Washing the new car

    Greetings,

I just traded in my '94 V-6 Camaro for a 2000 Z-28 less than 36 hours ago. The rain seemed to bead up pretty nicely today. I am wondering what is the best to use for my initial wash/wax job, and to keep her shining brightly thereafter. On my last car I used Mothers products. However, I had read in some posts below about Zainos and Turtle Wax and I was wondering if they were any better than the Mother's products I have been using.

    Thanks,

    Brian

turtle wax is cr@p. wax has carnuba. carnuba is water solable. wont last. zaino is a polymer polish. no solvents. layers for better protection. uv rating of 40.

our firehawk tells the story.....hey..but its only 4.5 yrs old and 70k miles in this pic......so......

me checking in again (just like whenever the zaino-wax debate starts up). Have used meguaires carnuba for years-have not experienced Wolfman's comemnts about 'washing off', and have a virtually swirl free glossy finish on the ragtop. And at substantially lower cost than zaino. But--to each his own.

I've tried dozens of products for over 30 years. Zaino is the only one I'll use again.

carnuba is water soluable. its a proven fact. the "wax" stays on, but it losses its luster after a couple of washings. it also has solvents..so when you wax the car...the coat u just put on took off the coat that was on there. zaino stacks. thats why it protects so well. also..bugs and tree sap does not stick to zaino. you can wipe them off with your finger.... you cant do that with wax. bugs are acidic..and very bad for clear coat...

                but.........

                to each thier own.

Thanks for the replies. OK, you guys convinced me to give Zaino a try. I think I will try the $84 package. Next question... are the leather cleaner and tire gloss as good as the rest of thier products? By the way, Kevin V, I checked out your website. That SS is beautiful!

The tire gloss is awesome. It's not sticky like the stuff you get at the store and doesn't attract dust and grime. It actually repels the stuff and holds a good look for days at a time. I've had people ask me how I kept my 3 year old tires looking so new! After 5 years I think I'm on my second bottle now.

Oh...and read the tips on the Zaino site. It's not complicated like some people make it out to be....but there are some useful tips there.

I don't have any experience with the leather cleaner/conditioner.
