That is the problem. Pedal should be up twards the top. Try bleeding the system. What is happenning is the clutch is not releasing all the way and it is hard to get it in the gears as a result.

Another idea...
Did you tighten the bolt holding the fork "T" mount all the way? If that bolt were not tightened all the way the pedal would engage really low.

I've never had to bleed mine. do you have a reapir manual? I can look in mine when I get home. I know the procedure is in there.

I recommend buying a service manual. That would be the easiest way to get proper instructions to bleed the system. There might be a spot on the net, but not that i've seen.

no way for me to know for sure. No doubt though that the clutch is not releasing fully. That mean the fork is not moving far enough. Either air in the line or improperly installed fork mount.

Bleeding the slave cylinder may NOT do the trick. You may need to redo the seals in the slave, and maybe the master cylinder too. Just a little more work, but after pulling and replacing the trans, not much. The Old Guy! '94 z-28, m-6, t-tops, go-fast red, 316k. Now with '96 engine w/ Lt-4 hot cam, roller rockers, heavy duty timing chain, and Spec stage 2 clutch.

another thought...
did the plastic hat on the release rod get re-installed? The rod that goes from the slave cylinder to the fork has a plastic hat on one end. If that were not reinstalled. the overall length of the rod would be less, and the clutch may not release all the way.
I suggest pulling the slave cylinder off, it is just 2 bolts. The clutch fork should be just about even with the edge of the bellhousing.(if memory serves me right). Maybe the answer will be obvious.
