what do you guys make of this tire?

on my moms 1997 ford explore. she is about to be making a long trip (200+ miles on highway) and we want to make sure she is not going to have any tire trouble. we noticed this today. should we replace?

(its been a while since iv posted here. you guys have changed it around alot, i hope KenC is still posting here)

not only is the dry rubber cracking appearing everwhere.. but there may be significant damage to the belt edge. belt edge seperation is the most common form of blow out (sudden air loss) associated with suv's and mini vans. this is due to the high center of gravity and the tendency of the sidewall to "roll over" with the crown edge (where the tread meets the sidewall)... this type of stress causes the separation. it "saws" at the belt edge. the only cure is to eventualy replace the "p" metric tires wit LT tires on the vehicle.. we do that to all our govt vehicles.

thanks ken. do u have any recomendations that we can replace those tires with? my mom is heading up to discount tire right now. hopefuly they have something good.. shes kinda in a rush cause she has to leave today. again thanks!!

hehe oh and she took it to discount tire and they told her it was only cosmetic.... but i think im gonna stick with Ken's opinion on this one.. she is gonna head over to the OTHER discount tire..

sure...its cosmetic......... for now.............. without xray and innerliner inspection...there is no way to tell the damage.

cooper discoverer radial, most bridgestone tires...and michelin if she wants to spend the big bucks. all of them dont have "bargin brands" unde thier own name...
