  • What is a low temp thermostat...Should I ???

    What are the benifits to istalling a low temp thermostat.... will it actually lower the running temp of my car.. i have no clue.. should i do it.. '95 z28 A4,ported heads,CAI.

    Here is the one i am looking at.. what do you think

    yhea it opens the water flow into your motor at a lower temperature, thus letting your engine run cooler, i have one its just not on yet.... buy it its what all the preformance cars use.

      A 160* t'stat not going to do much unless you have the PCM reprogrammed to turn the fans on sooner. Sitting in traffic, the engine will still get just as hot as it would with the stock 180*F t'stat. At highway speeds, it will probably run cooler, though.

      Best results will be had with changing the stock fan temps (226* for the first fan, or low speed; 235* for the 2nd fan or high speed) to something more like 185/195*. Then add a couple degrees ignition advance, to take advantage of the cooler head temps, and you can see a 10HP gain.

      SLP parts tend to be on the expensive side. You should be able to get a Hypertech 160* LT1 t'stat for less than $32.
