  • Got replacement flowmaster at Meineke and they put in a 2.5 inlet...

Did they screw me...they claim the pipe behind the Y is 2.5, but why would flowmaster recommend a 3 inch. I suspect they screwed me. Are they lying, and should I raise hell?

    Meineke - where?

What city/state are you loacted in. One of my nest friend's runs a meineke in Indiana. I can ask him. He just sold me his 19000 mile 99 SS Convertible and knows a lot about the F-Body's.

I am in Spotsylvania, VA...I went to a Meineke in a town in northern VA because our Meineke shop in town is crappy...but now I feel the same about the other Meineke. I doubt I will ever go back to one again.

The stock intermediate pipe behind the Y on a V8 is 2-3/4". Most aftermarket cat-back systems use a 3" pipe. The Flowmaster setup I had on my old 93 had the 3" pipe. Is your car V8 or V6? The V6 might have a smaller pipe, but you should always listen to the manufacturer(Flowmaster) and I would definitely get the 3" pipe put on.

Nah, you don't know me...but I have been frequenting the F-Body page for a couple years as GreyRX7...even though I haven't had a grey RX7 for awhile. The only Meineke I knew of real close to here is on Rt 3, and that dude is annoying. He only does custom work if you bring him the parts, and then he will only do the work on Saturdays. I went to the one on Rt 1 in Woodbridge because they had done good woek for me before...they suck now. Should I just have another muffler put on, or raise hell with them (or preferably the Meineke home office since they are a performance and flowmaster distrubutor?

                Im confused....

Did you buy an intermedite pipe? I am not sure if you just bought a muffler, or if you bought a whole cat-back. And flowmaster does make a cat-back with a 2.5" intermeiate. It depends on what kinda car you have to. I had a 1991 RS with a 305TBI, and flowmaster told me that the 2.5" one would be better for me. I went with the 3" anyway, but I am not sure if you got screwed or not. If you just bought a muffler, then the shop would need to get a muffler with a 2.5" inlet to accept your stock intermediate pipe. If you bought a whole cat-back and you wanted a 3" system, then it looks like they put the wrong one on.

I was willing to buy whatever I needed to in order to get the job done right the first time. I only wanted to keep my tail pipes because I like them better than ones with chrome tips.

They probably only put on a muffler... Just look under your car and see if the intermediate pipe is new or if it looks old. That will tell you what happened.
