  • Turbo vs. Supercharger " Sticky?"

    Ive been wondering this.

STS makes a rear mounted turbo

Other people are running turbos instead of superchargers on their LS1's and LT1's.

What are the benefits of each?

Anybody running a turbo or superchager?

    Performance?

One better with an auto than the other?

Turbo, is a little more efficiant in that it does not run off the crank. The downfall is the turbo lag.

Supercharger is instant. A lot quicker to build boost than Turbo but it will cost you a little hp. The STS system is good in that it keeps the engine bay cooler by moving the Turbo to the rear. Also causing the incoming air to be cooler than a front mounted turbo. Either one can be done right and produce some inpressive number. My buddy built a 96 Z with a 381ci and a VorTec Charger. Pushing 13 psi he was right around 735rwhp. He was running 9.14 in the 1/4. Later he switched to a turbo and broke into the 8's. Dont know why he switched but it was for the better.

A decent writeup, although written by someone who sells superchargers:

A search will produce numerous decent writeups:
