  • Exhaust combo: Tell me what u would run

    Hey guys,

I wanted to see what you guys would think is a good combo for headers and muffler. I heard that the loudmouth with headers sounds crappy..is that true? I was thinkin maybe SLP headers and a corsa or loudmouth. Well let me know. if you know where to get sound samples tell me...theres this one for corsa http://www.corsaperf.com/cfflash.html

PG45....the loudmouth is a catback system, not just a muffler. It includes the intermediate pipe from the catalytic converter, muffler, and exhaust tips. If you want a performance gain, don't get just a muffler.

I'm running a Borla adjustable catback with SLP shorty headers. Reason I went with the shorties is to stay emissions compliant. It has all the hook ups for EGR. I move around a lot and never know what state I'm going to end up in. I have the stock y-pipe and cats.

The headers did make a big difference in the sound, but nowhere near the performance gain of longtube headers. The sound is much deaper and aggressive. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably look harder for longtubes with EGR connections.

That said, it sounds great with the cutout open. I close it for long highway trips though to keep the noise inside down. When I'm taking my time it takes 9-10 minutes to change the block off plate with a normal ratchet. I LOVE IT!

Got MagnaFlow on mine...funny how a lot of guys don't use it. It has a nice rumble and clean burp when you blip the gas. Not too loud but loud enough to make people think twice before they start revving at you...3 inch connecting pipe with muffler and 3 inch chrome tips...sweeeet. I think any high end catback is a good choice...I just like a the sound of MagnaFlow. Wanted Borla, but it's way out of price range. Corsa is really nice too...

One thing though... if you don't want REALLY SUPER loud, don't remove the catalytic converters. I did, and was absolutely shocked by the result It has grown on me, but I still may put a catalytic converter back on to tame it down a little bit.

It is so loud that I back down would-be challengers with a simple flick of the accelerator at a stop light. No one tries anything after they hear it, it honestly resembles a NASCAR. (And I am still going through the muffler - I wonder what it would be like with a cut-out - geez...)

EDIT: Upon further review, you are from New Jersey, so taking off the cats really isn't an option for you anyways, hehehe...

Not to get off track here, but are there 50 state legal longtube headers?

Here is what i think i may do after some research. I think im gonna go with the SLP long tube headers into high flow cats with the corsa...Any reason to stay away from either ones...are there better headers out there?

I've heard clearence issues with the SLP, hang a little too low on a normal car let alone a lowered car. Also their power output is not quite were it should be. Kooks or QTP or TPIS I've heard are some of the best and have shown the best gains without sacrificing clearence. JMO

                      get the GMMG !!!

Get the GMMG exhaust and be done with it. It is by far the BEST sounding exhaust for the LS1, and sounds incredible on an LT1. http://www.gmmginc.net . I bought mine through a group purchase at f-bodyhideout.com . I cannot even begin to tell you how awesome this exhaust sounds on my WS6! Internet sound clips do not give it justice. It flows awesome too!

PPC headers went on nice and easy, and I have no ground clearance issues.

But you have the right cat-back picked out Corsa is awesome. IMHO, it is by far the best looking system, and I think its sound is also top notch.

Trust me, Corsa doesn't hold a candle to GMMG. GMMG is BY FAR the best sounding exhaust for the LS1. Go to any message board that has people who have experience with different exhaust systems and you'll find that GMMG is on top. GMMG costs a little less than Corsa, sounds UNBELIEVABLE, is stainless steel, and is much more free flowing than Corsa. There is only 1 other exhaust system that flows better than the GMMG, and that is true duals. The GMMG has an awesome quality sound throughout the rpm range. Its the exhaust that GMMG installs on the BLACKBIRD WS6, BERGER CAMARO, ZL1 CAMARO and the rest of their special edition vehicles. Trust me, GMMG is #1. I bought mine for $650 shipped from http://www.f-bodyhideout.com . I'm sure they'll be doing another group purchase in the next few months. Talk to SleeperZ96BT for GP information.

Well, after checking into that exhaust, I gotta tell you, it isn't nearly as good looking as the Corsa...

I don't doubt what you are saying about the sound or flow... I am happy with the Corsa's sound, but it is the way it looks that really seals the deal for me
