i have a 94' firebird 3.4 v6 and i am looking for a cheap way to increase horsepower. i have found that racing chips might be an option, i need to know if its bad for my engine or not
waste of time for a v6 car. some steeper gears would help you out
I disagree to a point. If the engine has been modified, a new program would be required to get the thing to run correctly and to it's potential.
Now to be technical, the 94 has a flash memory and does not have a removeable chip in the ECM..... therefore, you cannot but a chip, you would have to seach out a competant tuner that can do the program for a 94 V6. Up until a couple of years ago, that option didn;'t exist as the aftermarket tuners had not cracked the GM program enough to be able to write a program.
If you want good performance from your V6, this is what you need:
Stage 1
*SLP cold air intake for a 93 Z28 or V6.
*3.42 posi differential from a 94-97 Z28/TransAm with a stick shift.
*Z28 factory intermediate pipe and catback
*1LE aluminum driveshaft
Stage 2
* Headers
*power adder such as a small shot of nitrous
Stage 3:
*aluminum heads and intake from front wheel drive 3.4 motor
*custom ground camshaft
*custom computer program
*larger high flow injectors
There was a guy running a turbo on a 3.4 that dyno'd 378 HP.
That was with quite a bit of engine work and high boost. The 3.4 is actually a nice little race engine but suffers from a very restrictive top end. Redo that and it's a little screamer.

he didn't mention anything about having done any mods. and if that's the case then you don't need one.
