  • Camaro question

Okay, this is a question about the LT1/LS1 carmaros. I know that the SS has ram air, the Z28 does not. But is there such thing as a Z28/SS? or SS Z28? Meaning "combined" with options somehow? I say there isn't, my friend says there is. On certain websites they label the camaro as a Z28 SS, so what's the deal?

All the 4th generation SS's started life as Z-28s. After they are born, that go to SLP's facility and get converted. New hoods, spoilers, badges, exhaust, rims, shifter, rearend, etc.... Depending on how the car was ordered.

I would say it is no longer a Z-28 after the conversion. It is a Camaro SS. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

One thing I'm not sure of though is if SLP did the conversion for all the years it was available. I'm pretty sure they did, but not 100% posative.

Back in the "good old days" Camaro's could be ordered with multiple trim levels. You could order a 1969 SS, or a RS, or even combine the 2 into a RS/SS. There were many different interior trim levels available too. Our options these days are fairly limited.

The 96 was officially called a z28 SS and in 97 changed to just SS.

        Jeff is right.

There had never been a Z28/SS prior to 96 because there were conflicting options. RS/Z28 and RS/SS were possible in the early days.
