  • Pontiac GTO appearance poll

What do you say, guys. Is the Pontiac GTO sexy or just another Bla Bla jellybean car.

I realize it has the V8 horsepower and the 6 speed with the rear wheel drive, but does it stand out visually.

I say NO. When I first saw the pictures I tought it looked like a every day front drive grand prix / grand am... Whatever all the regular pontiacs look like these days. Nothing special. It doesnt stand out.

I look at the Camaro over time and every body style had distinction. Very well cut, defined, and not mistakable. The designes were always bold and new.

There is nothing new in the GTO. What a disapointment. It does nothing for me. My opinion.... I'd rather buy a low mile 2002 SS or WS6.

Now those cars have the cut looks to match the performance.

I'd say it's in between the two choices.

It's really a mistake to compare the new GTO directly to a TransAm or Formula. It's not a replacement for that car. Styling is supposed to be conservative, sleek and low key. More in keeping with, say, BMW. While it may be lacking in hoodscoops, traditionaly GTO styling has been in line with the rest of the Pontiac line up....so this isn't the styling stretch that some make it out to be.

These look pretty close. One is a Grand Prix and the other a GTO.

I can agree with that... it falls somewhere between.

It is a RWD LS1 car in its first trial year...give it some slack. I really like the interior. Personally, I think it is a little too small. I wished it was the size and shape of the '66-'67 with an EFI big block...(wishful thinking!) 'but, it would be a nice car to have especially as a daily driver. Remember, the car was a big body cruising coupe not a sports car. I am going to wait until '05 with some of the changes coming down, but I am seriously considering buying one.

Hoodscoops are returning for '05. They did look at puting them on this car, but the aero impact was too large and to spend the time to redesign was too much money and would have delayed intro.

Believe it or not someone in GM management had actually suggested using decals to make it look like it had hoodscoops. That didn't fly for obvious reasons.

And if you still don't like it after that.....then wait til 2007 for a complete redesign on a new platform manufactured in the U.S.

Performance wise it matches a TransAm in 0-60 and 1/4 mile even with the extra 200lbs. Motor Trend times prove this.

Living proof that most of their management should go gently into that goodnight.

If it weren't for such a stiff price tag and You know the dealers are going to excessively mark up the price with a "fair market adjustment" I would have considered it.

I just think its kinda funny that no one has seen the production car yet...and the 'old schoolers' (F-body fans) are slamming it. We've only seen pictures and concept cars...Why don't we wait till its actually on the road to pass an opinion?

Personally, I like it, but I'm witholding judgement until I see one in person.

As far as 'distinctive' on the camaros...well, we will just overlook the early 4th gens that looked like longer Geo Storms, mmkay?

Hey I liked the way the early 4th gen camaro's looked . and as for the new GTO......if it looks like the concept I think it fine. Not exactly eye catching, but cool for a family sedan. Besides it could be a real nasty sleeper . But thats just my opinion.
SOLD: 91 Firebird, 350 .030 over, flat top pistons, done up 305 (14022801) heads, performer rpm airgap intake, 292/292 .501/.501 cam, holley 4150 (800cfm) carb, Th400 trans, Gm 10 bolt posi rear end. Currently running 14.6 at 93 mph. Now driving a 04 Mitsu Lancer, slower but at 1.87 per gallon for gas; much cheaper to run

The appearance sucks. I can't wait to see what the GTO will look like in 5-6 years. Hopefully they will totally redesign it. The 98+ WS6 is the greatest design Pontiac has ever created.

The GTO is actually a two door coupe. I would have been furious if they used a four door sedan or a FWD platform. If you go on the Pontiac site, you can see it in its final form. It is a pretty sharp car; ...not a big head turner, but more sophisticated. I like the '93-'97 Camaros as well...far more then the '98-'02s. The front grill and lights of the later ones never really grew on me.

I agree that the '98+ WS6 was one of the most aggressive looking and appealing cars out there. I love them...probably my favorite behind the '71-'72 T/A 455 HO, and the L71, L72 '67 Vette Roadster. However, the GTO is not an f-body or even a sports car. The new one will perform like one, but it is suppose to be a big body muscle car, and the current version captures that to some extent. The purists which I am one of, (sort of), are a little disappointed that it is too much like a sports car, to small, no Pontiac power, and not Detroit American Steel. However, I am just happy that it is production again, RWD, with a 350hp power-plant, and I will buy one eventually. However, It needs to be a little more aggressive (muscle car) looking, but that will happen in time. I am not concerned about it be Holden right now...actually, I wished that I could get my hands on one of their new Caprices...the're sweat and we don't have them anymore.

Personally, not digging the GTO, and the price tag will surely be unreasonable and might suffer the same fate as the Thunderbird.

Now on the other hand, Chevy looks to be more on the right track with the Camaro if they go with this concept look.

Holy crap that is a sweet looking Camaro! I agree, if they make one of those I will be selling everything I can to get the money to buy one. That is what they should have made instead of the stupid freakin SSR Pick-up, or whatever it is called.
As for the GTO, I agree that it is a little too tame looking, and could possibly be mistaken for a four banger import. But, I have to admit that the power and performance would almost be enough to entice to into buying one.

2000 Black Camaro w/3800 V6. Hotchkis STB, Whisper Lid, K&N, Flowmaster exhaust.
