  • ARP Main Stud Problem!

    So after having to deal with cnc-motorsports.com "Customer Service," I finally got the right stud set for the mains. Or so I thought. I ordered the ones for use with Windage Tray, but now I have 2 extra long studs. The original ones only have 3 long bolts for the tray.

    My question is, can I put these studs up in the front of the engine without clearance issues with the oil pan or anything else? Can I just hack-saw them to the correct length? I have to get the car finished ASAP!



    I also noticed that the rear bearing doesn't align perfectly with the oil hole in the block, is this normal? And the machine shop scratched a cam bearing, but they said it will work ok. Just thought I'd get a second opinion.....

    If you don't need the windage tray part of the threads, then yo can cut that part off. Just put the pan on there and make sure you have a little clearance - you can use clay if you want.

    You can use a needle file to match the main bearing hole with the one in the block

    That cam bearing in the picture looks bad to me - hopefully, it's just the photo making it look that way.

        if a bearing is sracthed, is no good, as it creates a high spot on the bearing and could destroy itself fairly quickly. the shop owns u a new bearing, and tell them u want the old fubar bearing

          these guys are right. you can't run a scratched cam bearing. they owe you a new one.

            Thanks for the advice guys! You can feel the groves on the bearing if you run your finger on it, so I guess its back to the machine shop. I gave them a set of durabond bearings to install, I just hope they put the same kind back in. Thanks again!

              In a way, I'm astonished that they said that they screwed up the bearing but said it would be OK.

                yea that kinda amazed me since if that starts rippin metal off, not only do u need a new cam/bearing but who knows what else with that kind of metal floating around. looks like they do pretty good work judging by the pictures. id ask them how that happened with the bearing tho, they gotta have that cam bearing install tool so i cant figure out how that happened

                    Update on the CAM Bearing. I took it back to the machine shop and they told me that they shaved the bearing with a blade because the cam was not sliding in like it should. What do you guys think?

                      im hoping thats just lube that looks like scratchs in the picture, but i think it might be time to find another shop to do ur cam bearings
