Any experience with "Rust Bullet"

Putting a new (used) rear end in my bird. As "Injuneer" so aptly put it on his web page dealing with the installation of a new Strange, after he took the old rear end out: "stand back and marvel at what a rusted pos it is."

Well, since I've got one not installed yet, and hence completely accessible, I thought I would try and make this one last a little longer.

I've seen some favorable reviews of the product "rust bullet", and I just wondered if any of you folks have ever used it, and what your views are.

I think he has a rusty rear end to put in his car.

Wire brush it, hit it with a abrasive pad, and degrease it the best you can, then use Rustoleum or one of the rust encapsulators, then paint it. The better you prep it, the better it will turn out, naturally.

When I first got my car, the rear was not painted, and I couldn't do anything about it until spring rolled around. By then, it had a light coat of red rust. I cleaned it off the best I could and painted it with the red Rustoleum, then the black Rustoleum. I painted a bunch of the other suspension components as well since they just had a light coat of black paint. It still looks like new under there, although a lot of the stuff has been replaced by aftermarket parts.

You're right Kevin. But when you're talking about a rear-end from a 90's F-body, is there any such thing as one that ISN'T rusted?....LOL!

Actually the one I bought is in much better shape than the one I have in my '94. This one is out of a '97 Trans AM with about 60k milage. Looks like the previous owner ran into the back of a truck....ouch. (Hate when that happens!) The salvage folks left the rear brakes, control arms, panhard rod, e-brake cables, brake lines, sway bar, etc. all attached to the axle assembly. All of which is in better shape than on my 94, so I'll use all of it.

I plan to coat the critical parts (i.e. the spring perches) in Rust Bullet, and the rest will be, as you said brushed down and painted with Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer, then paint the whole thing overall with a top coat of an epoxy based paint. New diff cover gasket, new gear oil. That should hold it a while!

I'll include some pictures in a few days showing before and after. Can't wait to get my car back again!
