What's The difference?

ok guys i have a 94 v6 now and im tired of it lack of speed so im looking to upgrade to an LS1 now where the lack of knowledge comes into play what is the difference between a 1998 Z28 and a 1998 SS they both are LS1s with 6spd or auto correct? or more power with the ss or what can someone please help me with this. sorry for the dumb question!

The only difference between the SS and Z28 was the intake plumbing and (if optioned) an exhaust. The motor was physically the same.

hahahaha yea thanks joe. i dont plan on doing a swap that was my original plan was an ls1 swap so i had the fourth gen body but a fifth gen driveline but i got a guy is gonna give me 4k for a 130k miled 3.4 auto with very minor mods he just really wants a maro. if anyone knows someone with a LS1 6spd black please let met know i would be able to work something out please help me help out your military boys!!

Well technically the LS1 is still 4th generation. Although i've always thought it should've atleast been called 4.5 generation.

The difference is the Shocks and the Sway bar in the front I think.
If your going to get just a Z28 thats good and get Aftermarket Shocks and u can find the 1LE Swaybar on ebay for like $50 shipped unless u want the badging.

I would try and get a '01+ 4th gen. The '01-'02 have the LS6 manifold. Either way do all the free mods and you should be good. Keep in mind that there is a big difference in the torque from the LT1 to the LS1. Thats the only thing I dont like about the LSx models. The band is much higher in the rpm range.

Also keep in mind that the 98-00 models are more likely to have the famous Hydrolic issues with the clutch. I had a ball of a time having to drop the tranny.

Other than that, awesome cars. 300+rwhp stock!!

ok thanks guys well would it be better to buy a newer LS model 6 spd or to find and older LT model with the 6spd and building it up hotcam kit, TB, exhaust and stuff like that which would cost more?? im not gonna be buying the V8 untill late feb early march no sense in buying one in the start of winter can we say NO TRACTION!!!! thanks for all the help guys

alright sounds like a plan now does anyone know of good websites for cheap cars? i mean like lower priced camaros maybe need little work to pass inspection or whatever military pay is very crappy
