  • Stock 16x8 chrome wheels

I've been looking into getting another set, but when I called the dealer I was told there are two different part numbers:

    9593122 (RRN)
    9593303 (BAD)

Does anyone know where I can find the 3-letter code on the rim? One of the spokes says 9592444.

    Thanks

Here's a list of wheels out of the Firebird - Trans Am parts manual. Not sure what to make out of it with that second # they gave you 9593303 (BAD). It says Discon in front of the (BAD) one but it seems to have a different part #.

Thanks for your help. I just tried plugging in the numbers on gmpartsdirect.com, and came up with the following:
      12365482 - 16x8 Chrome 1998-1999
      9593303 - 16x8 Chrome 1998-2002
      9593122 - 16x8 Chrome 1997

Like I said, I can't seem to find the part number anywhere on the wheel, but one of the spokes says 9592444 (which the dealer couldn't do anything with). I was hoping I could find out which is the correct wheel without taking off the tire.

Then again if there were two different designs for 1997, maybe one was improved over the other? I just remembered how the very early 97's do not have digital odometers (mine has a digital one).

Well, gmpartsdirect.com replies back to me stating that 9593303 is the correct part number for my 1997 Formula. Strange since according to their database, 9593303 is for 1998-2002 models, and my car was built in November 1996.

This is after I sent them the casting number 9592444.

Ok well that's kind of weird, because if you "browse the catalog" and put in 97 firebird they list 9593122 as the 5 spoke chrome wheel and the painted 5 spoke is discontinued. Sounds like they gave you some bad info. Besides that the prices are outrageous! Check ebay

Where did you see that it is discontinued?

If you try to add the painted 5 spokes to your shopping cart a message comes up that they aren't available.

Hmmm, tried "add to cart" on gmpartsdirect.com and did not get that discontinued message. I know the prices are ridiculous, but I would rather not buy off ebay without knowing the true condition of the wheel.

Once you submit the cart it takes the item out of the cart and displays the message. You have to submit the cart to get the part numbers from the browse method, bad web design

Ok, took the tire off, and could not find BAD or RRN anywhere on the wheel.

How can I tell if mine is a single-ring or dual-ring mounting surface? Thanks!

EDIT -- gmpartsdirect.com insist that 9593303 is the correct part for my car. But this number brings up 1998-2002 model years, and 9593122 brings up 1997 (as listed in Black97's attachment). Gmpartsdirect.com will not let me return if incorrect, how do I know which is the correct part? Sorry for the ?'s, but I just need to somehow confirm the correct part. Thanks!

Well, I ordered just one 9593122 in case it isn't the correct wheel (9593122 is correct according to Black97's attached file). When it arrived, I examined it and took one of my wheels off to compare them.

They look exactly the same (the front, the back, the ring that goes around the hub, the bolt pattern, etc). The only difference I saw was that the center cap lip on the new wheel is slightly smaller (very minor, and the center cap fits fine, and is still hard to remove).

I was told that 9593303 is the correct part for 1997 P05 chrome option. But, this wheel (9593122) fits perfectly on my car (fits around the hub, bolts are perfectly centered before tightening, no clearance problems for the brake calipers, etc). Is it safe to say that 9593122 is the correct wheel on my particular car? Or are the two wheels made out of different material?

                      Still confused. Thanks!

If it physically looks and measures the same I don't see any issues. I don't think they have different materials for different models and even if they are different materials it's not going to matter.

Yep, looks the same, fits the same, everything measures the same (except for a slightly smaller lip for the center cap, which does not seem to affect the way the cap snaps into place). For that reason, I was wondering if one was made out of different material (alloy or aluminum), of if one was heavier than the other. Or, maybe I did get the exact match.

Sorry about that, 97Bandit. I wasn't looking to buy used anyway.

You should post your wheels in the for sale section. You might find someone who would like to upgrade their wheels to chrome.
