about half an ounce of coolant came out the opti harness tower when i tipped the optispark unit upside down. I will assume that is where my problem lies. So now, my question is: Must i buy another new opti? or can i salvage this one (i.e. by drying it out etc)?

You can try taking it apart and cleaning it out. Especially if it's nearly new, but that's a lot of work if it doesn't work. Just be careful, there's some fragile stuff in there. Here's a link to an optispark dissection page.

I wouldn't try repairing the unit. You have to take it off anyway, you are better off replacing the entire unit with a brand new plug and play distributer.

I dried everything out today and put it all back together. But no go.
I will do some more testing, and if everything else is sound, i will sign the check for the new GM Opti. Wish me luck!!!
