  • ECU flash codes?

Does anybody know how to flash the ECU for error codes without an OBD reader? I know on the 3rd gens you shorted either pins 5/6 or 6/12, what about 4th gens (2002)? Our bird has a rattle in the back end but is throwing a timing and catylitic error.

The only 4th Gen you can flash the DTC code on the SES light by shorting the ALDL pins is the OBD-I 1993. After that, you need a code reader, hardware or software scanner. 1996-2002 is OBD-II and you can get cheap code readers as low as $40 (Harbor Freight). 94/95 are OBD-I and need something like the Auto Xray OBD-I scanner, which is a bit more expensive than the OBD-II scanners. There is free scan sfotware for OBD-I though.

Exactly what codes are you getting?
