No Crank/No Start

with the key in the ignition in the "ON" posittion, i get no lights on the dash except for the seat-belt-light. When i turn it to "START" there are still no lights and the engine doesn't even turn over. Battery reads 12.61DCV with a multimeter.
The security light does not turn on ever.

i had that happen the other night turn the key off and walk away come back about ten minutes later and try it again mine only does it when i jump in a try to start it like in a hurry maybe gonna be late for work and the damn car wants to make me even later for work!!!!

funny you should say that.....i was 5 minutes late for work today!!
4 hours later, it starts and runs fine, however the "Trip" was reset and the clock was reset....

Could it be an unstable battery? i will get it tested tomorrow or friday

It sounds to me like a bad connection to the battery.

well mine is a 94 so all dials no digital BS so im not sure but yea the whole being late yea lol but on my moms 92 they have the security system and me and my pops just took it out disconnected it and it never happened again on her car but i havent really done that on my car yet cause it hasnt done it to often. but look into taking that darn thing out it might make it better.

the battery is a gas station bargain battery (previous owner's). my step dads 98 conv t/a was having a problem with a cheap-o battery a while back. it turned out that one of the cells was shorted. new battery fixed it for him. i will have mine tested today. fingers crossed

good luck man if it is bad an optima is the best bang for the buck.

a new battery fixed it/along with some other problems: studder at low rpm upon take-off
