Hey guys im going or planning to swap the rears out of my v6 and my Z28, would that work without any modification? like are the brake lines the same and all the mounting points? if im not completely dumb it should just be drop the shaft, trailing arms (sorry if its the wrong name im sure someone will correct me) brake lines, and springs and shock, if there is anymore can someone please help me out.

also the lights inside the rear view mirror does anyone know the bulb number for them? of the parts stores around me can find it i think they are just retards. lol thanks guys.

I have an online writeup on swapping rears - its for a 12-bolt swap, but the steps will be identical.

    http://members.aol.com/InjuneerZZ/Strange12.htm

Is the V6 rear a 3-channel ABS setup? Is the V8 rear also a 3-channel ABS setup? They won't swap if one of the cars has traction control (4-channel) and the other doesn't. I don't even know is they offered TCS in the V6's.

Are both of them disc-brake rears? The E-Brake will not be the same if the V6 doesn't have the optional disc brakes.

Did you look in your Owner's Manual for the replacement bulb #? If you don't have a Manual, there is a link to online copies on Shoebox's web site.

hey fred thanks for the intsr. but just to be clear my brakes are drum right now im not really worried about the e-brake right at the moment i dont think in the past year ive ever lifted that thing anyways. but to check the ABS there should be either 3 or 4 wires coming off the plug correct? and as long as they are the same then the rears should be no problem correct? sorry for sounding like such a dummie.

3-channel means there is a single ABS sensor for the rear axle, mounted on top of the center housing. 4-channel has two sensors, one on the backing plate for each axle hub. 3-channel has a single brake line that goes to a block on top of the center housing and splits to each side. 4-channel has a separate brake line to each brake.

NOT good guys not good, so yesterday i pulled the rear outta my z28 found out everything will match up but the e-brake since im going from drums on the rear to disc, i pull the diff. cover off the find metal shavings pouring out, 3-4 of the teeth are broke in half on the pinion gear and i came to figure out that the rear gears are somewhere around 3.14? does taht sound right or no? does anyone have any suggestions on gears im thinking just ordering 3.73 from summit also can anyone give me the specs of the rear from a 94 z or how to figure it out. im sorry everyone im just now jumping into the "rear" game i really dont know much about them thanks for everything guys

The ratio is the number of teeth on the ring gear, divided by the number of teeth on the pinion. Standard ratios are 2.73, 3.08, 3.23 and 3.42.

You have to determine what the ratio was in the rear you opened up, if that's the rear you want to rebuild with new gears. You need to determine the actual ratio, so you can figure out if it was a 2-series (3.08 and lower) or a 3-series (3.23 and higher). You have to know the carrier series to buy new gears. Your options are 3.73, 3.90 and 4.10. All those typically require a 3-series carrier. But you can buy a 3.73 that fits a 2-series, or use a spacer to fit a 3-series gear in a 2-series carrier.

Are you planning to install the gears yourself? Do you have a pinion depth tool to set the pinion depth, and a dial indicator to check the backlash?
