    I've been in Germany for over a month now. My rental car is an Opel (GM) Omega

    Its a 2003 4 door with a 5 speed, 4w disk ABS and a 2.2 16V motor.

    It tops out at 210 Kph (130 Mph) but I didn't feel too comfortable at this speed. 180Kph (112 Mph) felt pretty solid. I already put approximately 1000 miles on this car and it is pretty fast (without passengers and cargo).

    In ten days I turn it in and pay the rental fee (over $4000 for 6 weeks).

    Europe is really expensive.

    I have seen some nice Vettes and TAs driven by GIs and of course the Porsches.

    I can't wait to get back into my Formula though.

    Omega=Catera=New GTO

    Interesting how the Catera was not more accepted in the US market, they are pretty nice.

      Hm ... at german rental places, the Omega is one of the larger/largest classes you can pick ... (though, compared to US rentals, it would qualify medium size at best). Still, 4grand seems a bit much, even for Germany - or does that include fuel?

        I have friends in Germany.

        I've never been to Germany but I have had a number of friends stationed there. My understanding most of their cars don't have the power that we have in what the general German public can afford. I was told if you brought your F-Body or especially a Vette out there that you should sell it (if you are in the service) because you will get a very good chunk of change for the value of the car over there. I'm sure driving on the Autobahn would be fun also but I still hear that they do have speeding limits on the Autobahn is that right?

          Speed limits

          There are speed limits generally before major exchanges (ie: where autobahn 3 and 5 cross) and down large hills, around turns and near cities. But once you get to open road its pedal to the metal. People don't get fender benders on the autobahn, they die unless they are both lucky and stupid (me). 15 years ago I went into a skid on wet pavement when iI was doing 110MPH. There is nothing so exciting as going approx 65mph, tail end first heading for a bus going going 50mph. Eventually the bus walked away from me and I was left facing the wrong direction on the autobahn at night.........Whew

              Omega might equal Catera, but it's certainly not the same as the new GTO.
