Run some restorer oil treatment. My moms 90 Sentra had that, Ran that 2-3 times and it was set. Just put that in there and let it run. Then run like some Injecker cleaner. Thats about the only $$$$ reasonable things i can think of.

You need to find out where the noise is actually coming from. Pulling the valve covers will tell you if it's a rocker arm or pushrod. Those are quick and easy fixes. If it's a sticking lifter, some cleaner may help...... maybe the lifter is collapsed.

ok i talked to my grandfather and tonight we are gonna pull the covers and adjust the valves see if that helps any ill go pick up some oil restorer. you say run that 2-3 times is that 2-3 oil changes or what? i also do have a decent little leak on the back side of my motor maybe a quart every two weeks depeneding on how much i drive it. anyone have suggestions before i just go and start pulling stuff i wanna get the back of the motor all clean up with some engine degreaser and all and then look for the leak but i dont have a lift and that would make it all soooooo much easier. lol thanks guys

That oil leak is most likely the deaded intake manifold oil leak. The EGR pips and harware wraps worund the back passenger side of the intake manifold. The exhaust heat literally cooks the silicone seal used at the back of the maifold and oil begins to leak. If you are lucky, it's only the valve cover gasket...... but history gives a pretty good chance that it's the intake.

two questions.......... one. luckily i got a set of cover gasket for after i do the valves, hopefully thats all it is. also if i do replace the cover and intake gasket what can i do to keep the heat away from there so im not goin through this every couple months. can i just wrap it with exhaust wrap???

for a good note i just put a quart of lucas in it and it doesnt tap as bad there is still a tap but no where as bad as before. so im just gonna go through a few oil changes and see what happens before i pull the motor and rebuild it. i talked to my engine guy and all he wants to do is freakin rebuild the entire motor and i dont wanna do that unless i have to!!!!

well i really dont wanna run just a heavy weight just to hold off the inevitable. if everyone thinks it should be rebuilt then thats what i need to do. i know its hard for anyone to tell me cause they cant hear it. but im pretty much just wondering if anyone has any parts i can run untill i get the money and other vehicle so i can rebuild it.

Yeah just run that stuff through the engine about 2-3 oil changes. It might help.

sure its a valve train noise? alot of times (esp with headers) a bad manifold gasket sounds like a valvetrain noise

Nothing, the EGR tube bolts up to the intake, so the heat is directly transfered. If you take your time and seal it good you'll be fine.

its embarassing to say but i had rebuild quite a few motors in my truck cause of a spun bearing valvetrain or anything along the line and i know thats what this is. i already have a small exhaust leak so i know that sound and got used to it but yes its definately something internal.

For $2k your going to have your work cut out for you. I say your looking at around $2500-$3500. My brother is somwhere around $7k+ for his 383 build in his LT1 Maro.

Might be a good idea to take Joe's advice and find out exactly what's wrong before you pronounce it dead.
