  • Exhaust mainifold gaskets

On my 95 Z28 I need to change the exhaust mainifold gaskets. The pass. side
has a leak and it is driving me crazy. Do you guys have any pointers on this? I beleive I will have to remove the alt. but just wondering. What if I break a bolt off....... Do you then have to pull the motor(If it is the one in the back)

Typical. I can't count how many LT1s I've run across that had a slight leak on the passenger side. No tips to give other than you'll need an assortment of extensions......a 1", 2" and 3+" extension for your ratchet, also a universal joint and assortment of box end wrenches. Drop the y pipe, unbolt the starter, push it forward and let it rest on the crossmember. start pulling manifold bolts. Some are easy access from the bottom, some are from the top. The #2 plug is perhaps the hardest to access even though it's right up front. That's where the short extension will come into play.

Also, I would get Percy's dead soft aluminum header gaskets. They conform around irregular surfaces and crush to form a leakproof and blowout proof seal. be careful.... if you strip a bolt hole, the head will likely need to come off.

This morning I got to looking at it I noticed that the rear bolt was missing, so I was happy until I tried to put a bolt back in it when I noticed that one was broke off in it.... So I guess I will have to pull the head to fix???

That rear bolt hole is virtually impossible to redrill without removal of the head.

You might could use an alternate hole with headers. You'll notice two bolt holes. some headers use the other one.

            Edelbrock

I just dealt with the same problem you have. I started to change a leaking manifold gasket on the drivers side and found the rear bolt broken off in the head. I bought the Edelbrock headers from Summit Racing. With these headers you can use either bolt hole on the front and back of the heads except on the passenger front where you will use the very front hole for your alternator bracket. I paid around $500 for the headers but in my opinion better than removing the head to remove the broken bolt. My Camaro is a 1995 LT-1 also. The Summit part number for the Edelbrock headers is EDL-68942. The kit comes complete with the Y pipe and all new bolts and gaskets. The install was not that bad just time consuming. I would get frustrated and walk away from it for a couple hours and return in a better state of mind. A beer or two will help with the times you are stumped and thinking what the fock did I get into. I also changed my spark plugs since they were easy to get to. I was going to change the plugs wires but Summit sent the wrong set and I chose not to wait for the right ones.

Also......... SLP shorties have the dual bolt hole arrangement.
