  • what is this for

i had a 94 z38 and it did not have it.it has a throttle cable hooked up to it. i am trying to get the idle lower and this thing has a spot on the back that looks like a vacuum line goes to. feels like it kinda sucks but when i block it off the idle stays the same.

That's the ASR servo. Otherwise known as traction control. There is no vacuum lines going to it AFAIK.
A 1994 would not have it, as it did not come out until 1995.

Idle speed is adjusted by programming (unless you have a cable out of adjustment, keeping the throttle open).

Looks like you are missing the round plastic clip on the side of the throttle linkage cover, that is supposed to hold the fuel line bundle up off the AIR/exhaust components. Fix it, or you're going to melt a fuel hose and have an under hood fire.

For a temporary repair, I got a heavy duty black nylon wire tie. Push the point through the hole in the side of the throttle body cover from the inside, wrap it around the bundle and push the tip back into the hole in the cover. When you push it into the other end of the tie, the "knot" will keep the tie from pulling through the cover. Clip the excess material off the end of the tie, so it doesn't interfere with the throttle linkage.

              Very old photo....
