  • Need help bad...could it be the STARTER?

Ok, i would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out, i have a '95 z28. And a while back when i went to start it nothing would happen. The motor would make a clicking noise but nothing would even attempt to turn over. Its NOT the battery i have plenty of power. Sometimes i would wait a while then try again. Finally it started and didnt give me problems for about 6 months, and about two weeks ago it started again. When i tured the key it would click, but nothing else would happen. But usually when i turned the key the secound time it would start. Now it will just click and not start at all! What could it be.

It seems that the last couple times when it did this, it would help when i tapped on the starter..idk what it is. Please help..Thank you

My advice would be that if you suspect the starter, pull the starter and have it tested at the parts store. They will do a load and current test on the starter and the solenoid, you'll find out if it's good or not.

Definately get the starter tested if you think that's it. However, also get your battery checked (could have a bad cell - shows plenty of juice, but goes away when it's loaded). Also make sure your connections are tight at the battery - it could cause the condition you describe. It has for me anyway.

You may also want to check your ground straps. If they're broken or corroded away, you could end up not being able to make a complete circuit that can handle the load.
