Even with all this said I would still do a mega raptor if it were me. You won't have the computer problems and still have your overdrive. Consider this, the stock trans lasted how long and you are worried about a trans that is twice as strong going out? One of the best things about the 4L60E is it is computer controlled. I have hated automatics for years because of the way they shift. Never when you want it and if you try to fix that they shift so hard during regular driving it is annoying. The computer control fixed most of that. You would be giving that up going to the TH400. The 4L60E is the very first automatic I could stand to drive. I think you are worrying too much.

An auto trans with a manual valve body shifts EXACTLY the way you want it to shift, EXACTLY when you want it to shift...... EVERY time. The main feature I do miss, after converting from the M6, is the loss of engine braking with a manual valve body. Downshifting the M6 was always fun.... non.e of that with the TH400.
I do agree though, unless you are looking at more than 750HP, there are people who can build you a reliable 4L60E (or 4L65E). Loss of overdrive is a real problem too. A TH400 is a race tranny, not for a daily driver. Look at one or two of the "Supporting Vendors" on CamaroZ28.com, who spcialize in tranny rebuilds:
