  • Need help with a knocking coming from the bell housing and SES Light

When the car is idling, I am getting a knocking noise from the bellhousing. When press the clutch in, it goes away. Someone suggested that it could possibly be the throw out bearing but I dont know for sure. At first, I thought that it was coming from the engine but after a little troubleshooting I narrowed it down to around the bell housing area, maybe the transmission. Is this normal or does anyone know what this could possibly be.

Also, I have a Service engine soon light on. My wife said that the light came on so she checked the gas cap and the cap was cracked. So she bought a new cap from the dealer and put it on. The light has not gone away. I took it to AutoZone and the OBD II said it was an emissions leak. I dont know the code but that is what he told me. Could this still be a code from the gas cap or is there something common with this year Camaro that I can fix? If it is from the gas cap does disconnecting the positive reset the light?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Without the code, you're just guessing. I don't recall a code that specifically says "emissions leak". Possibly the EGR system.... but get the exact code.

Alright, well maybe Ill head back down to Auto Zone and hook it up again. Like I said, he hooked it up,got the code, typed in the code to his computer and told me that it was an emissions leak. I think this time I will get the actual code from him. Thank you for the reply.

That does sound like it could be the TO bearing. When mine was going out it made what I would describe as a low rattling sound but a knock sound is close enough. The fact that it goes away when the clutch is pressed in enforces that. Mine was acting just like that. How any miles?

By the way, if you select User Control Panel under Quick Links above you can add a signature with all of your car info. That way you don't have to retype it every time.

The car has 167k. Alot of miles but the car actually runs quite well. Still has alot of power. I suppose you could consider the noise kind of a rattle.

Every time I try to go into the UserCP it gives me an error and says it is sending an E-mail to the Technical staff. It tells me to refresh my browser but that doesnt help. I would really like to add a picture or two of the car.

Don't use the UserCP link on the menu, it doesn't work.

            EDIT:
I Typed that wrong the first time.

Click on Quick Links then Edit Signature and see if that works.
