Ok, I climbed under the dash and removed the panel that covers all the wires. After searching, I found the purple and white/white & black wires. I disconnected the harness and inserted the leads from the voltmeter into the pins on the harness and didn't get a reading at all for resistance. So, I figured the wire must be broken inside somewhere and was keeping it from being a complete circuit. So, I put everything back and then realized a couple hours later while thinking about it that i never turned on the ignition while testing it.Of course there was no circuit. Soooo...I am going to try again later today.
One more question, though. Being that I am electrical dummy, how do I go about finding a resistor with the correct...uhm...resistance to complete the bypass? Mine was in the 8700 range. So, a 7 key code. I looked at resistors online but they are color coded and in some form of Greek as far as the resistance. (Ok, it's not Greek, but it might as well be. )

I don't think it matters if the key is on or not. There is no power needed to read resistance (if there was power on it, reading resistance would not be possible).
8700 range? There are no pellets falling within that range. Better read that again. Pellet 7 is 1795-1965 ohms. You can find resistor color code converters on the internet, but all should be specified by numbers and not just colors. You can add resistors together to get to the needed value. You just tie a leg of a resistor to another in a daisy chain.

Well I had my lock changed about a month ago and today the security light was back on and it would not start. I pulled out the other key and it wouldn't start either. Once I went out with the screw driver to remove the cover below the steering wheel I tired the spare key again and it started. Then the security light stayed on for a while and eventually turned off.
Not sure what that could be caused?
So if I understand this right, the resistor mod is to remove the key fob thingy in the steering column.
The bypass module eliminates all the security features, right? Where could I find one, what to look for?97 Trans Am A4 more or less stock (Mods: WS6 Ram Air with Fernco & K&N, 12 disc CD changer, power antenna, SLP Fan Switch, LS1 Aluminum DS, Borla Cat back, McCord power plate, Spohn tower brace, Sirius, HID fog lights)
